Guidelines for Nigerians seeking a visitor's visa to Norway

A visitor's visa is a document showing that you have leave to enter Norway and the Schengen countries for a limited period, up to three months (90 days).

You may apply for a visitor’s visa if you are travelling to Norway on a business trip, a public business trip or official visit, on a family visit, or a study visit. To work or study in Norway, you must apply for a work permit or a residence permit for students. In cases of family reunification, you must apply for a family reunification permit. Please contact the embassy for details on the requirements and fees regarding work or study-related applications.

If the main destination for your journey to the Schengen territory is Norway or Iceland, your visa-application is to be submitted to the Norwegian Embassy in Abuja. If, however, your main destination is one of the other "Schengen Countries", the visa has to be obtained from the Embassy or Consulate of that country. The Schengen countries are Austria, Belgium,Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

• You need to have a valid passport in order to enter Norway
• Your passport must be valid for at least three months beyond the period of time for which you are applying for a visa
• You must have sufficient funds to cover your journey and stay in Norway. If you are without funds, you may be stopped at the border, even if you have obtained a visa
• A letter of invitation and a financial guarantee for your stay and for your return is requested from the person(s) or company inviting you. A guarantee form is available at all local police stations in Norway, and must be submitted together with the visa application. Proof of sufficient funding can be requested for.
• You must have a legal right to return to your own country of origin, or other country where you have a residence permit.
• You must be departing Norway when your visa expires. Your application may be rejected if the Norwegian authorities have reasons to believe that you may want to remain in the country beyond the period for which you are applying for a visa.
• You must not be registered in the Schengen Information System (SIS) as an undesirable alien in any of the Schengen member states.

The submission of forged documents as part of the visa application process is a criminal offence under the Nigerian Criminal Code and can lead to arrest and prosecution. The Royal Norwegian Embassy urges all its visa applicants to think very carefully before submitting their applications. If individuals are not absolutely sure of the authencity of documents, they should not submit them.

1. Complete and sign 2 copies of the visa application form with 2 recent coloured passport photos with white background.
   
2. Submit application form in person along with all the required documentation (listed below) to No 54 (Plot 1529) T.Y. Danjuma Street, Asokoro district in Abuja. Our opening hours are from Monday to Thursday 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. (please note all applications must be made individually)
   
3. The visa processing period is a minimum of two weeks. If the embassy forwards your application to the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI), processing may take longer. See UDI’s website www.udi.no  for further information on visa processing procedures.
   
4. In cases the Embassy refuses the application, the applicant can appeal the decision to UDI. If a decision by UDI is appealed, the case will be submitted to the Immigration Appeals Board (UNE).
   

1. All applications:
   1. Fully completed and signed application form (2 copies) with 2 recent colored passport photos with white background
   2. Non refundable application fee of N9,500 (new amount from January 1. 2007) payable in cash at the embassy. Please ensure that the exact amount is brought in N500 or N1000 denominations.
   3. Valid passport (valid at least three months after the expiry date of the requested visa)
   4. Photocopy of passport including photocopies of all previous Schengen visa
   5. Old passport(s) showing visits into Schengen area (if applicable).
   6. Original letter of invitation from a Norwegian reference including full name of applicant and exact duration of stay
   7. UDI guarantee form from your reference stamped by the Norwegian police unless sufficient proof of own funding is accepted by the embassy.
   8. Documentation of family relationship (if the reference is a family member)
   9. Valid return ticket in and out of Schengen (when visa is approved)
   10. Travel insurance covering Norway (when visa is approved- min. value of 30.000 euros)
       
2. Additional documents required for business visits:
   1. Personal bank statements of company for the last 3 months
   2. Certificate of incorporation
   3. Authorisation letter of the company certified by the Chamber of commerce (self-employed only)
   4. Authorisation of the company (employees only)
   5. Pay slips last 3 months (employees only)
   6. Covering letter of the company (owners only)
   7. Proof of business relationship with reference in Norway (e.g. receipts, bill of lading or contracts, etc..)
      
3. Additional documents required for tourist and family visit only:
   1. Personal bank statements for the last 3 months
   2. Introduction letter from employer (employees only)
   3. Pay slips last 3 months (employees only)
   4. Introduction letter of the company certified by the Chamber of commerce (self-employed only)
      
4. Additional for family visit only:
   1. Birth certificates of both applicant and inviter or other official documents as proof of family relation
   2. Copy of relevant pages of inviter’s passport
