03/08/2007 :: Tore Nedrebø was born 25 August 1957 in Voss, Norway. He grew up in Voss, Nordfjord (Innvik) and Tvedestrand (Holt). After finishing high school in 1976, he joined the Royal Norwegian Navy, where he was trained at the Naval Academy in 1976/77 and then served as sublieutenant and operational officer on a missile fast patrol boat 1977/78. From 1978-82 he studied at the University of Bergen, obtaining the BA degree with exams in comparative politics, history and Russian. Nedrebø then worked as European Secretary General of the Young European Federalists, a youth NGO, in Brussels 1982-84.
Returning to the University of Bergen, he took a more advanced degree in Russian and in 1986 obtained the Master's degree in comparative politics. In August 1986 he joined the Norwegian Foreign Ministry as a trainee. He was posted as secretary of embassy to the Norwegian embassies in Prague 1988-90 and Bonn 1990-94. When he returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he served from 1994-97 as head of the Western Europe office in the Political Department and of the EEA (European Economic Area) office for free movement of capital and services as well as for aviation agreements in the International Economy Department. In 1995 he published the book "Den tyske utfordringa. Tyskland, Noreg og det nye Europa" (The German challenge. Germany, Norway and the New Europe").
During a leave of absence 1997-99 he was managing partner in the business consultancy European Public Policy Advisers (EPPA). On his return to the MFA in 1999, he joined the Foreign Policy Planning Staff. In January 2001 he was appointed deputy director general and head of the European Policy Section in the Europe Department. He was appointed to his present position in June 2005, and arrived in Abuja 25 September 2005. He presented his letter of accrediation to president Obasanjo on 9 December 2005.
Mr. Nedrebø is also accredited as Norway's ambassador to Benin, Togo and Ghana.
