TRH Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit will visit Ghana on 12–14 April 2011. They will be accompanied by Minister of the Environment and International Development Erik Solheim. The purpose of the visit is to focus attention on a stable and democratic African country that is in the initial phase of oil and gas production, that Norway is assisting as a partner for development and in the management of its petroleum resources, and that is of considerable interest to the Norwegian business sector. Norway wishes to promote further progress in Ghana by developing its cooperation with the country through both bilateral and multilateral channels.
The programme will include meetings with the Ghanaian authorities, a visit to the Ghana Summit oil conference in Accra, visits to various bilateral and multilateral projects, including meetings with UN representatives in the field, and visits to a Norwegian study centre at Cape Coast and to the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre. The Crown Prince and Crown Princess will also attend Norwegian and Ghanaian cultural and business events.
