Ambassador meets Nigerian Labour Congress
The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) organizes more than 4 million Nigerian workers, in 42 different unions. Ambassador Jens-Petter Kjemprud today met with the President of NLC Ayuba Wabba and Secretary General Peter Ozo-Eson at Labour House in Abuja.
The history of trade union cooperation between Nigeria and Norway was revisited and areas of common concern was discussed. Further the negative economic development in Nigeria and the challenges it provides for the Nigerian working class and the trade union movement was elaborated on.
Norwegian business and investment in Nigeria includes a high number of companies creating employment in the Nigerian labour market.
NLC expressed interest in closer contacts with the Norwegian Confederation of Trade Unions (LO).
“I am so happy to have met with NLC and get acquainted with their organization and their challenges. I look forward to keep in close contact with NLC and its different unions” said ambassador Kjemprud.
