Schengen visas are issued by: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Schengen visa permits you to enter Norway and the Schengen countries for a limited period. Validity of Schengen visa is for a maximum of 90 days, should you need to stay in Norway for a longer period, you must apply for a residence permit. As a general rule, the visa cannot be extended once the holder has entered Schengen area.
If you have not visited Schengen area previously, a visa is normally issued for one entry only. Once you have made one visit in accordance with visa granted you may apply for two or more entries provided that you can provide documentation supporting the need for these multiple journeys.
If the main destination for your journey to the Schengen territory is Norway or Iceland, your visa-application is to be submitted to the Norwegian Embassy in Abuja. If, however, your main destination is one of the other Schengen Countries, the visa has to be obtained from the Embassy or Consulate of that country.
The issue of Schengen visas is discretionary and depends on examination of each individual case, including purpose of visit and intention to return.
A Schengen visa is not the appropriate permit for you if you wish to remain in Schengen for longer than 90 days or take up employment or establish a business, trade or profession.
New regulations:
On the 5th of April 2010, regulation no. 810/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing a Community Code on Visa (Visa Codex) has entered into force.
Community Code on Visa has been implemented in the Norwegian Immigration Regulation section 3-4 and annex 8A.
The Visa Code will hereafter be the regulatory framework for visas for all Schengen member states. These new regulations imply new demands on the visa applications, meaning that all supporting documents must be handed in along with the Schengen application form.
It is essential that you collect and have ready all of the following documents before submitting your application to the embassy: application form, valid passport, photo, visa fee and supporting documents for the type of visa you are planning to apply for.
If you do not submit the required documents your application upon examination can result to refusal and your visa fee will be lost.
